Mpesa is huge in Kenya and it has gone global as well. It is the easiest and quickest means to send and receive money. Sometimes there’s a need to reverse Mpesa transaction sent to the wrong number.
Safaricom has done a good job in connecting even the smallest of villages with Mpesa. People all over the country can receive and send money in seconds. All you need is your safaricom sim card and your Identification Card.
But have you ever found yourself in a situation where you sent money to the wrong number? This happens.
If for some reason you fail to cancel the transaction through Hakikisha, you can reverse the transaction.
This is what you need to do to reverse Mpesa transaction sent to the wrong number:
- Check the message that you received from Mpesa after sending money to the wrong number
- Copy the transaction code in that message then create a new message, paste the transaction code and send it to 456
- You will then receive a message informing you that the reversal is being processed.
It is advisable that you send the transaction as soon as possible before the wrong recipient withdraws the money.
To avoid this, remember to use the Hakikisha option where safaricom gives you a 15 seconds window to confirm the name of the person you are transferring money to on M-PESA before completing the transaction. It also allows you to confirm the name of the agent when withdrawing money from your MPESA account.
The Mpesa reversal option is only available for customers to customer transactions only. For wrong Mpesa withdrawals, wrong lipa na mpesa transaction and Paybill payments, you will need to contact safaricom customer care on 100 for prepaid customers and 200 for postpaid customers.
