According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, two men who were involved in the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia have been taken into custody.
Father and son, Gregory McMichael and Travis McMichael, face murder and aggravated assault charges.
Gregory and his son got arrested two days after a video showing the deadly confrontation surfaced online.
The video shows Arbery jogging in the neighbourhood, he was then chased, shot and was killed. There was a physical confrontation between Arbey and one of the men. Three gun shots are heard and Arbery falls to the ground.
The incident happened on February 23rd.
The family of Ahmaud Arbery now feels a sense of relief after the arrest.
“It’s been a long time. It feels like it’s been a long time. So, this day was a turning point in recovering my brother’s case and getting justice for him,” said Jasmine Arbery, Ahmaud’s sister.
Jasmine thinks the shooting is a result of hate as the men involved are white while Arbery was black.
Gregory McMichael, 64, who is a former police officer told the police that Arbery looked like someone they had suspected in a series of break-ins in the area.
He told the police that after chasing him down, Arbery struggled for Travis McMichael’s gun and that Travis shot Arbery because he attacked him.
