Suspected hired goons attempted to attack the County Assembly Speaker , Beatrice Elachi and a section of MCAs in a disagreement over allocation of funds to the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS).
This happenned at City Hall in Nairobi on Thursday morning.
The Speaker together with about 30 MCAs who are in support of the newly formed NMs that is currently in control of the Nairobi city, spent the night at City Hall ahead of the budget allocating ksh26.4 billion to NMS.
A small fraction of the MCAs led by Abdi Guyo who are opposed the allocation of funds however arrived at the City Hall at around 4am accompanied by armed goons and confronted the security officers.
The police dispersed teargas canisters and fire in the air to disperse the group, some of the rioting members were arrested.
The perpetrators have been detained at Central Police Station.
According to Ziwani MCA Millicent Mugadi, the MCAs had received intelligence that they would be blocked from accessing the county assembly at 2pm to pass the budget.
Security has been intensified within the County Assembly where the Speaker and the MCAs have locked themselves.
