Bill Gates, Microsoft co-founder, has been on the forefront in issues related to the current coronavirus pandemic.
He has dubbed the pandemic ‘the first modern pandemic’ stating that it is a nightmare whose effects will linger on for years.
In an interview with Today, Bill Gates said it will take some time before things get back to normal.
“It’s going to be a while before things go back to normal,” he said.
He also said we are not yet halfway through the pandemic. “I wish I could say that we’re halfway through. But I don’t think so,” Gates Said
The reasoning behind his statement is we are still several years far from getting a vaccine for coronavirus.
Ideally it takes over five years to develop a vaccine which usually starts with animal testing before it can be tested on humans.
If the vaccine was to be fast trucked then it would take 18 – 24 months which means a vaccine could be available sometime in mid 2021.
The only way to return the world to a place where it was before COVID-19 would be to develop a vaccine, gates wrote on his blog.
So far Bill Gates and Melinda through their foundation have committed USD250 towards developing a vaccine for coronavirus.
