The current coronavirus pandemic globally has effected many people’s lives and derailed plans for millions more around the world as people are advised to social distance and stay at home. In Kenya, this was the message with a daily curfew to remain at home, a solution to slow down the virus spread but one with dire consequences.
The most important, it appears to be the BBI agenda.
With the pandemic creating an infinite time for the referendum, a key clause in the BBI, president Uhuru is now moving with haste to catch up lost time and move ahead with his plans.
Just this week, Kenyans have had to come to terms that there now exists an official KANU-Jubilee coalition and in the same breathe, a day later, Senate leadership is changed to remove Deputy President William Ruto allies, Senator Murkomen and Senator Susan Kihika.
The changes were done in what now appears to have been less quorum, on the heels of what the Political Parties Tribunal has termed illegal.
Senator Kihika got a reprieve when the Political Parties Tribunal disallowed the coalition agreement for not having gone through the due process. Jubilee was advised to redo the coalition by following due process.
However in the senate, a tensed Speaker confirmed that he was satisfied Jubilee had followed due process and ruled the changes to be effected in the senate – whilst well aware of the ruling by the Political Parties Tribunal.
But that is not all, now according to Itumbi, there are plans to reshuffle the cabinet, this time to bring in allies of Raila Odinga and Gideon Moi. It is expected that Raila might be appointed to a high government position.
Ruto has nothing to smile about. More investigations are reportedly ongoing and there are expected to be more arrests of his allies and even bloggers in a bid to tame him.
His allies in parliament are also up to the firing squad, with Duale’s Majority position in parliament all but confirmed for an axe.
Itumbi reveals that the end game for the plan is to have Ruto resign from the party and give Uhuru room to appoint another Deputy. Ruto is reportedly ready for a fight and would not give in.
