On March 14th, a rome-based catholic priest led mass during a burrial ceremony and then attended Sunday mass in Ugunja, Siaya county has tested positive for coronavirus.
Faither Richard Onyango Uduor was among the eight additional people that the government announced had tested positive. This announcement was made by the Health cabinet sectretary on 22nd of March.
The priest whose home is in Ambira, came back intothe country on March 11th and headed to Utawala in Nairobi where he spent two nights before travelling to Siaya on 13th March by bus where he conducted a burrial.
The priest then proceeded to Sega in Ugenya where he spent the night in a fellow priest’s house.
“There is a rumour that he went to Lwak Parish in Rarieda but this particular information is not very clear, so I cannot confirm with finality. He later left for Nairobi where he was diagnosed with the Covid 19 virus,” said the County Commissioner.
The county has now dispatched health teams to trace those that migjht have come in contact with the priest so that ey can be put in self-quarantine.
The county governor, Cornel Rasanga has ordered health workers who are on leave to resume duty in order to help curb the spread of the disease.
