Four fishermen whose boat drifted into the deep sea while fishing in Kilifi county have been found alive after missing for 17 days.

They disappeared on 9th December 2019 after experiencing strong waves.

According to Malik Mbwana, the captain of the boat, they met navy soldiers while stranded in the ocean but the officers refused to come to their rescue.

What started as a normal day at work turned into seventeen days in the ocean without food or water.

While in the ocean, they experienced a strong current and rain. They ran out of fuel and therefore lost control of their boat to the current.

On the second day, they could not recognize where they were. Without food and water, the team was dependent on salty ocean water and raw fish for a whole week.

Their hopes came to life when they spotted a team of navy soldiers patrolling he waters but their joy was short lived. They requested for help from them but the navy soldiers did not help them. They even refused to give them water.

After 17 days, they found themselves near Ngomeni village where they were rescued and rushed to Malindi Sub County Hospital.

The have since been reunited with their families.
