This week Mombasa county has been recording the highest number of daily infections of COVID-19 thus raising eyebrows on what exactly is going on in the coastal area.
The Governor of Mombasa county is also concerned about the rise in infections and is calling for a total lockdown in the county in order to help fight against the deadly disease.
The county has so far registered 79 cases with 22 of them being Kenya Ports Authority staff.
While launching a 300-bed capacity Covid-19 hospital and four Intensive Care Unit ambulances at the Technical University of Mombasa, he expresses his worry about the high rates of infection in the county sayoing hat the only way to stop the infection was by imposing a total lockdown.
“The results we are getting from mass testing at KPA are worrying. This is not a joke. This is almost 10 per cent,” Governor Hassan Joho.
“It is time we discussed total lockdown. There are no two ways about it. And I have heard so many stories challenging the idea with most people citing economic challenges as reasons why we should not have a lockdown in Mombasa, But honestly, Kenyan population is very vibrant, we can recover economically but we may not recover healthwise. So, we need to be alive for us to recover economically,” he said.
