Nairobi County Governor, Mike Sonko, now says his life is in danger after part of his securiy detail was withdrawn on Friday the 24th of April.
The move to withdraw the security detail of the governor came after a meeting where Sonko refused to sign a bill allocating 15 Billion to the newly established Nairobi Metropolitan Service to undertake functions that were transferred from the county government to the national government.
The said meeting was carried out in Sonko’s private office in Upper Hill on 23rd April. In attendance were State House Deputy Chief of Staff , Constitutional and Legal Affairs – Njee Muturi and Deputy Comptroller George Kariuki among others.
On 24th of April, a day after the meeting, security officers stationed at Upper Hill office and Sonko’s Mua Hills residence were recalled.
Sonko explained his decision by writing to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi. He said that the assembly had transferred monies irregularly including money meant for functions that had not been transferred from the county administration.
