People who love publicity have been out here trying to make themselves relevant amidst COVID-19 pandemic.
Politicians especially have been distributing food to the less fortunate but their distribution plan is a total fail which ends up creating chaos and further creating a suitable ground for the spread of coronavirus.
Most people end up getting nothing at all due to the commotion and in some cases stampedes occur and people are hurt.
There is no social distancing in such places as crowds keep pushing in order to lay their hands on the food that is being distributed.
The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni has asked politicians to put aside their love for fame and politics and stop calling gatherings in the name of food distribution and channel their distributions to the national task force. He said such gatherings only create fertile grounds for the spread of coronavirus.
In return, Museveni says that they shall record their names and give them the publicity that they want even if they want to sleep on TV.
I call upon the different politicians who are busy making distributions of rations to our people, please you are creating a fertile ground for the spread of coronavirus. Put aside your love for popularity and politics and avoid calling people to gather in the name of giving them food. If you genuinely have a contribution to make, get in touch with the national task force that is in charge and we shall be grateful. In return, you can as well gain your popularity, we shall record your name and give you all the publicity you want, even if you want to sleep on TV.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni
We hope this call will be respected in order to help the spread of the deadly COVID-19.
