Ruth Chepngetich has broken the world half marathon record by 29 seconds.
This is after cloccking 1hour 4minutes and 2seconds in the N Kolay Istanbul Half Marathon.
The previous world record had been set by Ababel Yeshaneh from Ethiopia.
Second in position was Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw who came second clocking 1:04:40 followed by Kenya’s Hellen Obiri in third position at 1:04:51.
This is he fastest debut half marathon in history which marks the first time three women finished inside 65 minutes in one half marathon
Joan Chelimo Melly was fourth while world record holder Brigid Kosgei finished fifth.
Chepngetich is a two-time winner of the race having won in 2017 and 2019.
