Senate Majority leader & Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County Kipchumba Murkomen has called on all Senators to immediately cancel their Christmas, New year holidays and return to Nairobi for duty. Senator Murkomen, who made the post on Twitter did not intimate on what kind of urgent business this could be.
His message though, cryptic as it were could be deduced to imply several things that we would like to explore;
The Senate is facing a crisis situation with Nairobi County for not having a Deputy Governor to run the city as Governor Sonko battles his court cases. It could be possible the Senate has a solution for Nairobi. This however is unlikely as the City would have managed a few more weeks to the new year.
Just today, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been impeached. Waititu had already been barred by courts from accessing his office pending a corruption charge that he embezzled more than 500 million. It is still possible that the Senators are being called to discuss the looming impeachments but again unlikely.
One last possibility would be a rally call by the Senators to start fighting back against the Jubilee administration or more specifically the handshake.
Senator Murkomen is a very close ally of Deputy president William Ruto and has been the most vocal and emotional in fighting back perceived attacks by Raila Odinga-Uhuru Kenyatta partnership.
Taking precedence from the US impeachment, it is possible that the recent retreat by several politicians allied to the DP was a rallying cry to start fighting back.
