Two Kenyan journalists were arrested in Tanzania after crossing the border without using the proper procedures.
The journalists were conducting Covid-19 interviews.
The arrests which took place on Saturday May 16th were confirmed by Frank Mwaisumbe, Tanzania’s Longido District Commissioner while speaking to Gadi TV.
“Those reports are true, though I don’t have sufficient details. The reason is that these people entered without clearance and without following the procedures. “They were from Kenya and did not pass through the border. The second reason is that they were found doing an interview with people and when they were questioned they said they were journalists who were working for a TV station in Kenya,” said Mwaisumbe.
The names and the station that the two journalists work for are yet to be revealed as no information about the same has been revealed yet.
There has been an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across the Kenya-Tanzania boarder most of the cases having been imported from Tanzania.
Due to this, the president of Kenya imposed a cessation of movement along the Kenya-Tanzania border in order to contain the spread of the disease.
