You are so quick to call everyone a friend. When the name is mentioned you will have a specified definition depending on your past experience.
Our friends are an expression of who we are. A real friend is the one who enters into your experiences. Accepts the flaws and loves you. Knows your weaknesses and stands by you. Sees your broken pieces and collects them to build you up. All for the right reasons.
But pause for a moment, if you had known from the beginning that your friends would leave, would you still have helped? The answer to this question is your true character.
You help friends not because you want them to stay, but because it is the right thing to do.
It is not strange that some friends already existing in your circles or new ones to come will show up in your life and cause you pain. Rather than celebrating you. They will pour more grief on you. They will do a critical analysis of your life rather than encourage you to endure.
Friends come in different colours, shapes and sizes; they might have a character that matches yours. Some walk, talk and think like you.
It is true that you don’t choose your family. But it is important to control who gets into your inner circle.
Here are the basic types of people you will interact with in the name of friends;
Confidant
Very few will fit this category and they are hard to come by. They will love you unconditionally and stand with you in every kind of situation. These are the kind of friends who are intertwined in your life. They will rebuke you until you do it right thus bringing the best out of you.
Constituents
These are the friends who are never into you but are only there to exploit you. They are after riding with you to get their mission achieved. They will walk with you, work with you and be with you but are never for you. If at some point along the way they get someone who will further their agenda, they will drop and leave you. If you are not careful in life and particularly when you are down and broken, you can easily mistake them for confidants. You will think they are for you when they really aren’t. Be prepared for a heartbreak as they hook up with some other person who has what they are after.
Comrades
These are people that you are connected to because they have a common goal as you. You are therefore connected solely through that goal. They are always against what you are against. They will team up with you due to circumstances and help fight a common enemy. They will only stick with you until victory is accomplished. They are like a scaffolding, they come into your life to fulfill a purpose and when the purpose is complete, the scaffolding is removed.
What is certain in the above three is that, both a constituent and a comrade will leave you after a while. Don’t be upset when they don’t react to your vision as you expected them to because they were not meant for you from inception.
Be careful who you share your dreams with, constituents will dessert you and try to fulfill their dream without you. Comrades will never support a personal dream if it doesn’t benefit them.
Relationships are a great resource. Choosing wisely who to have around you greatly influences what you become.
