This week a group of youths from UasinGishu county flew their mothers to Nairobi. The initiative was a brain child of one Sosthen Bellat – a teacher in one of the local schools.
After posting a positive results from his school, Sosthen Bellat was awarded a trip to Europe. The flying experience made him want to make his parents feel the same. He then decided to fly them to Nairobi. Together with other youths from the county, they made arrangements to fly their parents. First they flew their fathers in December.
In June, they flew their mothers. The happy mothers are to visit Nairobi national park and a few media houses. It is said that the mothers broke into song and dance once they landed at Jomo Kenyatta Airport.
There is no greater joy to a parent than seeing her child succeed and in turn comes back to bless the community. There’s also great joy in knowing that you can create happiness for those who helped you climb the ladder.
Sosthen Bellat has brought joy and honor to his home county as a result of the education he received. This initiative will leave a legacy in this county. It will also encourage parents to educate their children and encourage children to attend school.
This is how a nation grows and this is how we get empowered, through education.
